Day ratings weigh rain first (it raises and colors the river), then wind.

When to go

Apr–Jun and Sep–Oct; tailwater runs cold all year Wrong?

The water

Bottom releases from Neversink Reservoir keep the river below the dam cold all year, and the catch-and-release Neversink River Unique Area holds wild browns in an unstocked gorge. Reaching the gorge means a hike over rough terrain with no road access or cell service.

Target species
Wild browns; brook trout and browns above the reservoir
