Year-round; Mar–May best (black caddis late Feb, Sulphurs in May), Oct–Nov good; Chattahoochee Delayed Harvest Nov 1–May 14 Wrong?
The water
Two cold dam releases: the Chattahoochee below Buford Dam carries trout through suburban Atlanta, and the Toccoa below Blue Ridge Dam is a mountain float. Wading on both depends on the release schedule (USACE at Buford, TVA at Blue Ridge).
Fishing licenseRegulationsA Georgia Trout License is required on top of the fishing license. The Chattahoochee is artificial lures only from Buford Hwy (Hwy 20) to Medlock Bridge, has a Delayed Harvest section (Nov 1–May 14), and anglers must wear a PFD from Buford Dam to Hwy 20. Check USACE (Buford) and TVA (Blue Ridge) release schedules before wading.Wrong?
What a trip costs
You came from a self-guided day-trip search. The calculator starts with one fishing day and no guide. Licence, permit, travel and any other costs still apply.
These are the businesses this page's prices and fly lists come from. A listing isn't an endorsement, and nobody pays to be here.
Getting there
Getting there
Fly into ATL Atlanta, then 1 hr 15 min to Buford Dam; about 2 hr to Blue Ridge. About 52 miles (83 km) by road. Marker on the Chattahoochee just below Buford Dam; the Toccoa tailwater runs about 14 miles from Blue Ridge Dam to McCaysville/Copperhill, roughly 1.5 hr north.
