Check before you fish. Access, stocking and regulations here come from Virginia's own data and can be out of date. Posted signs and landowners' wishes come first, and private land needs permission. The rules that apply are in the Virginia trout fishing guide and current notices, and you need a valid fishing license.

Layers, public land, access and sources

Wild-trout lines retain DWR Class I–IV reaches and source species notes. Stocked-stream lines retain program categories such as put-and-take, delayed harvest, special regulations, fee fishing and youth-only water. These GIS inventories do not confirm present abundance, a recent stocking or current harvest rules. Lake points and unnamed wild reaches are omitted.

DWR notices checked October 14, 2026 are included for Little Stony Creek in Scott County, Cripple Creek, Mossy Creek and Back Creek. The closed Raven Cliff and Hanging Rock facilities are omitted. Some stocking and access restrictions change after download; check the current notices and schedule before travel.

Facilities combine published DWR boating access and Forest Service fishing/boating sites. Sites marked closed, decommissioned or privately owned are omitted where source fields identify them. Public-land context does not grant permission to cross private land; some special-regulation waters require landowner permits, and park waters have separate rules.

Highlighted banks adjoin mapped open-access public land, with a roughly 20-meter bank tolerance. Dimmed water has no adjacent open-access parcel recorded in this source. Neither determines legal entry, rights of way or permission to cross private land. Check signs, property rules and the current fishing regulations.

Access markers are source facility locations within about 800 meters of mapped water, not verified parking spaces or guaranteed entry to a particular reach. River-gauge readings describe the gauged location; a nearby gauge on another stream is shown as context.
