How to read this map

Highlighted stretches run through, or along, land the state or federal government lists as open to the public: state parks and forests, Wildlife Management Areas, county and town parks, the Delaware Water Gap and national wildlife refuges. Dimmed stretches cross private land or land we have no access information for. In New Jersey the bed of a non-tidal stream usually belongs to the landowner, so a dimmed stretch may be posted. Some stocked water on private land is open by the owner's permission; respect posted signs.

This is a guide built from public data, not a legal determination of access. Parcel lines can be off by a few meters, and rules on the ground win. Holdover water (off by default) is classified as able to support trout through the year; wild trout water supports natural reproduction.
